First of all it is essential that you have the correct safety equipment ie. visor/goggles - I’m happier with a visor as it covers my full face and when bits fly off (and they do at times) I’d rather have teeth protected as well as my eyes a dust mask or extraction is rather important too. Of course a clean working environment is helpful....

Mounting the bowl blank on the lathe can be done in a number of ways, I’m currently using a screw chuck which as the name implies has a screw in it, basically you drill the relevant sized hole in your blank and twist it onto the screw chuck.
